Bogey Team Wins!!

Zenith St Petersburg, not a name that would readily come to your mind when thinking or talking of football clubs in Europe. Prior to them winning the UEFA Cup last night in the Manchester not many people except maybe their ardent local supporters would have given them any chance of passing the group stage not to talk of winning the cup. My attention was first drawn to them when they dispatched the favorites Bayern Munich with ease in their Semi-Final encounter.

Their play was delighful to the eye, their passes short and accurate and their team work excellent. You might not have been able to pick one outstanding player among them on the night but they just further buttress the point that football is a team sports. Not taking anything away from Rangers, they tried their best and showed great determination that has carried them to the finals but it wasn’t just enough on the night.

Zenith St. Petersburg thoroughly deserved their win. What we would now be watching is if this is just a flash in the pan performance or a change of football power from the West to the East. Only time will tell.

the win just shows that big names dont make a team good. The Russian team depended on team work and with no notable 'star' they conquered europe.
