Roger Federer! Ever heard of him? I bet you do. He needs no introduction. Winner of twelve (12) Grand slam titles, No. 1 ranked tennis player for 220 consecutive weeks and still counting. Winner of 5 consecutive Wimbledon titles (2003 - 2007). The list of accolades and accomplishments are just never ending. To think he has achieved this lot by his 27th birthday makes it more amazing.
The fear of Federer became the beginning of wisdom for any of his opponent in the men's tennis circuit, he dispatched them with ease, he strutted the court like a king who knows he is invicible. The only mark to his mortality is the elusion of the French Open from the list of his titles.
But is the invicibility coming to an end? 2008 Season opened with great expectations from his numerous fans and a sense of de' ja vu and resignation from his opponents and tennis lovers worldwide as to who will be No. 1 come year end and who would be picking up all the grand slam titles slated for the year. But this is proving not to be as he crashed out in the semis of the first Grand slam of the year, the Australian open and since then he hasnt been able to win any of the events he has participated in.
Could it be that complacency is setting in, or a lack of motivation or simply that other players are starting to believe in themselves and their ability to beat the seemingly unbeatable man?
This questions and many more will only be answered when the season ends and we look at the number of titles won and lost by the great man himself!!
