Nigerian League vs Foreign Leagues

There is a buzz around town here in Nigeria and its caused by nothing but the impending start of the English Premiership. The Man Utd vs Portsmouth match played last weekend at the Abuja stadium has further whetted the appetite of soccer crazy fans. I wonder when the Nigerian League would be able to create such excitement and delirium amongst the fans. Imagine people wearing the jerseys of Enyimba, Kano Pillars, Shooting stars, etc, hmm that would be the day!! All that people get to hear about our League is allegations and counter allegations of bribery and corruption. Have you ever wondered or bothered to ask why 90% of home matches in Nigeria are won by the single goal margin - the winning goal coming via a penalty given in the dying seconds of the match or in the 30th minute of the injury time? We have referees as magicians and club officials as terrorists in this country.
The latest news coming from the Nigerian Football League (NFL) is the termination of the contract for sponsorship of the league held by telecommunicatioins giants Globacom though the company has come out to refute the claim made by NFL. officials managing the league spend more time fighting real and unreal enemies than they devote in running the game. Points are never won on the field of play but in the boardroom. Until those running our football put their house in order and take a cue from what the South Africans, Egyptians, just to name but a few African countries with very bouyant leagues, Soccer loving Nigerians will continue to turn abroad to get their dose of excitement from football that they cant get here.
Go CHELSEA-the Quadruple or nothing else!!
