Amodu Shuabu has come under attack for the way the Super Eagles having been playing. He has been critised along with his team for playing an unattractive football. From my own personal view, I believe the mentality of any coach or team should be to play to win no matter how scrappy or unattractive it is and not entertain and then lose or draw , remember Arsenal.
Nigeria's goal right now is to qualify for the nations cup in Angola and the World Cup in S. Africa come 2010 and in as much as they are getting the necessary points who cares how they play or if its defenders that has been getting the goals for us. Come to think of it, there are no more minows in football anymore and looking at the qualifying matches that has been played in Africa only three teams has the maximum 9 points from the 3 matches played and Nigeria is the only one among the 3 that is a big named country and also highly ranked by FIFA.
Where is Cameroun, Egypt, Senegal,.etc? Am sure they would give anything to have those maximum points than be tuanted to be playing attractive football but still struglling to qualify.
Go on Super Eagles and fly to Angola and S.Africa in 2010.
Euro 2008 is ongoing and Italy and France are just a reminder of what happens when a country refuses to wake up to reality on ground and start build a new generation of players to take over from the old ones. Yes with age comes experience but with the pace at which today's matches are been played it would be outright suicidal for countries or teams to parade predominantly old players.
The Italians came to the tournament with an average age of players been the highest and the French team is also in this category. The Italians are my favourites but unfortunately now their destiny to quailfy for the Q/finals is no more in their hands.
What do you think about the Dutch team? Am short of words to describe them.
