Flair and Artistery versus Strength and Ruggedness!!

The issue of whether coaches should tutor their teams to play in an attacking and positive way no matter what is at stakes in a football match or to play in a defensive or negative way to get the necessary points has sprung up again. In one of my recent posts the Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard accused Manchester United of 'not wanting to play football' in their Champions League semi final clash at Old Trafford. He moaned about the defensive style of play of his opponents.

Fiorentina Coach and some of his players vented their anger on losing to Rangers in the UEFA Cup Semi Final Second Leg and Florence yesternite. They complained about the defensive style adopted throughout the match. Fiorentina Coach in one of his comments stated ' they came here to play for penalty shootout which they eventually got by packing all their players at the back'.

What do you think about this? The coaches are under pressure to deliver and they would most times do anything posible to achieve this even if it means hurting some feelings along the way.
