Wednesday Musings

I have been battling for some days now to get my internet connection working fine.

Last night's champions league match between L'pool and Chelsea proved to be what pundits said it was going to be-tight, cagey, with nothing to choose between the two teams though L'pool had the better possession and created the better chances but the goals came through mistakes from players of both sides. Lampard dispossessed of the ball in front of his eighteen yard box for a Dirk Kyurt 43rd minute opener while a John Riise misjudged header put the Blues level in stoppage time.

I wonder what would be going through poor John Riise's mind now having put his side in jeopardy of going out of the only competition they've got left to in oder to salvage yet another dismal season in the Premiership where they failed to challenge for the title.Chelsea would now have themself to blame if they fail to take advantage of this scoreline come next week during the second leg at Stampord Bridge where they have an intimidating record of not losing in over a hundred matches.

Barca Vs. Man Utd. Two teams with flair when at their best and with un unbelievable attacking options available for both teams. Crucial men for this game will be Messi and Eto'o for Barca and Ronaldo and Rooney for Man Utd.We are set for an enjoyable night of soccer between two teams with contrasting fortunes in their domestic leagues. Barca's La Liga hope is virtually over with them 11 points behind Real Madrid while Man Utd are on top of their league with 3 matches remaining. Much ado has been made about the form of summer signing Thiery Henry for Barca but I believe big players are often made for big occasions like tonight's match and Henry inspite of his troubles is certainly a big player for any occasion.

The Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria released his 27 man team list for the friendly against Austria in Vienna in preparation for the World Cup and Nations Cup qualifier against South Africa in Abuja. The list can be termed as 'same of the same' with the old/regular faces making the invitee list. Kayode Odejaiye is the only new face in the list. Making a return are Christian Obodo, Yusuf Ayilla, Emmanuel Okodua, Chidi Odiah and Victor Anichebe. Lets hope Shaibu gets it right this time around.

Why is so much noise been made about the non-inlcusion of John Mikel Obi in the Nigerian Olympic team?
